Saluhall

A vibrant, two-level Nordic-inspired food hall in downtown San Francisco where light, color, and architecture converge to create a dynamic civic marketplace rooted in gathering, discovery, and shared experience.

Located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, Saluhall is conceived as an open, communal culinary destination—an expansive yet cohesive environment that brings together five independent restaurants, an eatery market, and a cookery school under one roof. Inspired by Nordic civic spaces, the design encourages movement, interaction, and social exchange across two interconnected levels.

The architecture is defined by saturated color, layered materials, and sculptural forms. Floating vendor volumes glow in vivid reds and yellows, acting as luminous landmarks within the larger hall. Curving communal bars and long shared tables foster collective dining, while more intimate seating zones are shaped by wood slat screens and softly illuminated ceilings. Tiled forms, circular openings, and rhythmic vertical elements create visual continuity and intuitive circulation throughout.

Lighting establishes hierarchy, identity, and atmosphere. Boldly illuminated vendor fronts energize the space and reinforce brand presence, balanced by comfortable ambient layers that temper the scale of the volume. Decorative pendants and integrated linear systems echo the architectural geometry, adding warmth and clarity. Strategic contrast and glow guide guests seamlessly—from entry to counter, from vibrant social zones to quieter dining moments.

Saluhall is ultimately a contemporary marketplace where food, architecture, and light work in concert—shaping a social landscape that feels both dynamic and deeply communal.
