Moscone Center
A transformative renovation of San Francisco’s premier convention destination, the Moscone Center reimagines the attendee experience through light—integrating infrastructure upgrades, intuitive wayfinding, and vibrant architectural illumination to create a dynamic, energy-efficient civic venue.
The comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Moscone Center modernizes one of the West Coast’s most prominent convention facilities, enhancing infrastructure, technology, and sustainability while redefining the public experience.
Lighting design plays a central role in shaping clarity, identity, and movement throughout the expansive concourses, exhibition halls, and vertical circulation zones. Layered illumination reinforces architectural rhythm—accentuating sculptural ceilings, structural trusses, and continuous wall graphics—while integrated linear systems provide visual continuity and intuitive wayfinding across large volumes.
Color-washed feature walls and illuminated signage create distinct zones within the vast interior, supporting orientation and reinforcing the civic character of the venue. In primary circulation areas, luminous ceilings and concealed coves soften scale and balance brightness, ensuring comfort for both high-traffic trade shows and large-scale public events.
Energy efficiency and long-term performance were fundamental drivers of the design approach. Advanced lighting systems and controls improve operational flexibility, reduce energy consumption, and support the Center’s sustainability goals—delivering a contemporary convention environment that reflects San Francisco’s innovation, vibrancy, and global presence.
