UCSF Medical Center
A transformative healthcare campus shaped by light, UCSF Mission Bay Medical Center blends clinical precision with warmth and clarity to create environments that support healing, comfort, and connection.
UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay is a state-of-the-art hospital complex designed with the patient experience at its core. The lighting design reinforces this mission—balancing advanced clinical performance with warmth, visual comfort, and moments of delight across the campus.
Within the Betty Irene Moore Women’s Hospital, light-filled private rooms provide a calm, supportive environment for patients and visitors alike. Soft ambient illumination, glare-controlled fixtures, and generous daylight create spaces that feel restorative rather than institutional. The Birth Center integrates welcoming, residentially scaled lighting to support comfort during labor and recovery, while maintaining the precision required for clinical care.
At UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco, playful decorative elements, colorful feature lighting, and thoughtfully illuminated common areas foster community and reduce stress for young patients and their families. Throughout public lobbies, waiting areas, and circulation spaces, architectural lighting enhances wayfinding and reinforces openness, complementing expansive glazing and access to green space.
The result is a cohesive lighting environment that elevates healthcare beyond function—supporting wellbeing, reassurance, and human connection throughout every patient journey.
